Hearthstone Wood Stove Glass (H-I). It is important to periodically inspect the glass and glass gasket on your wood stove to ensure you have a proper seal. A crack in the glass or a missing / deteriorated gasket could allow smoke or flue gases to enter the room.
*Fits original H-I models manufactured from 1978 to 1988. *

Instructions:
1.) Remove the front/door. To remove, open the front door and tap out the hinge pins using a hammer and a small punch. Tap the hinge pins up from the bottom of each hinge tab on the door frame. Lay the door face down on a protected surface (i.e., cardboard, a heavy blanket).
2.) Apply penetrating oil to the screws holding the glass retention bars in place and allow them to set for a few minutes (Note: Before handling the damaged glass, be sure to put on your work gloves and safety glasses).
3.) Remove the screws holding the glass retention bars in place with the 5/16” wrench (Note the placement of each of the bolts. Occasionally oversized bolts were used in the assembly of the stove). After the retention bars are removed, carefully lift out the damaged glass and discard it.
4.) Pull the paper backing off the new flat gasket. The adhesive side is applied to the glass overlapping each side. Continue around the glass until the entire glass is wrapped with the tape and cut off any excess.
5. Place the glass panels back into the doors. Lay the retention straps back into place and secure them with the screws.
6. Place the doors back onto the stove and tap the hinge pins back into place.
Helpful Tips:
If you need to remove the glass or glass gasket it is a good idea to spray any fasteners with a product like WD40 or PB Blaster prior to this step. This will greatly reduce the possibility of stripping or breaking any screws/bolts during removal. When reinstalling the glass tighten the fasteners in a crisscross pattern. This will help to ensure there is even pressure on the glass (Do not overtighten).
Please open and inspect your glass to make sure that it has arrived intact. Damage Claims for broken glass from shipping MUST be made within 72 hrs of delivery, no exceptions. Glass breaking from after installation is NOT covered under warranty, this is due to improper installation. If you do not feel comfortable replacing your glass, please contact a licensed technician.
