Instructional Notes

On most units, the ash pan can be accessed by first opening the main door and then opening the ash cleanout door. The ash pan can simply be removed by lifting up and pulling forward (You should wear gloves during this step. The ash pan can stay hot for an extended period of time after the fire has gone out).

ASH DISPOSAL:

-Whenever the ashes accumulate to a depth of 3 to 4 inches in the firebox or ash pan the excess ash should be removed (Make sure the fire has burned down and the unit has cooled to the touch).

-Leave an ash bed approximately 1 inch deep on the firebox bottom to help maintain a hot charcoal bed.

- Ashes should be placed in a metal container with a tight-fitting lid. The closed container of ashes should be placed on a noncombustible floor or on the ground, away from all combustible materials, pending final disposal. The ashes should be retained in the closed container until all cinders have thoroughly cooled.
