Install Instructions For Backyard Pro Pellet Grill Auger Motor Repair Kit
- On the bottom grate under the hopper, locate the 4 screws that hold it in place and remove them.
- Remove the 2 screws holding in the controller.
- Once removed, rotate the controller, so you can push it through where it was housed.
- Unless already removed, clip the zip ties holding all the wires together.
- Locate the 4 screws holding the hopper assembly on the grill and remove them (2 on either side).
- Carefully remove the hopper assembly.
- When replacing your feed motor, it's a good idea to remove the feed auger from the grill, make the motor swap and then reinstall the feed system as one piece.
- Remove the 1/4-inch bushing screw (Screw holding the auger to the frame of the grill).
- Disconnect the red wires from the main harness and loop them back through the burner mount so they are free.
- With force, try to pull the auger motor back and forth by hand to try to loosen the jam.
- Once the feed system is out of the grill, using 5/16" (8mm) socket wrench and a 4.5mm allan key, remove the Shear pin, freeing the Auger from the Auger motor.
- Replace the motor, reconnect the shear pin, install the feeder assembly and lock the bushing in with the set screw. Reconnect your wiring and then reinstall the hopper shell.
HOW TO REMOVE THE AUGER IF IT JAMS?
1) DANGER! Turn the Switch OFF (o) and disconnect the Power Cord.
2) CAUTION! If the Grill is still hot, allow it to thoroughly cool.
3) Remove any covers necessary to access the Auger Drive Motor.
4) Remove the screw connecting the Auger Drive Motor shaft to the Auger shaft and the screw retaining the Auger Bushing into the Auger Tube.
5) With a small pipe wrench or locking pliers on the Auger shaft, turn the Auger counterclockwise. It will turn hard until it breaks free, then the Auger will turn freely.
6) Remove the Auger and clean all Pellets, ash or foreign objects from the Auger, Auger Tube, and Firepot. (See instructions for proper handling and disposal of ash in Section Five)
7) Sand the outside surfaces of the auger with medium grit sandpaper. Check the inside of the Auger Tube and sand it if needed. Vacuum the sanding grit out of the Auger Tube and Firepot when finished. Check that the Auger rotates freely.
8) Re-attach the Auger shaft to the Auger Drive Motor shaft.
