Harman Cast Pawl Retrofit Kit Door Handle Assembly, 1-00-453001

The Cast Pawl Door Handle is the assembly commonly found on all Harman P Series Stoves made roughly around 2013 and after and was sold as a retrofit kit for older style pellet, coal, and wood-burning units. When installed as a retrofit, this assembly solved the common problem of the handle becoming loose because the pawl set screw would flatten or "strip" the threads of the pass-through bolt.

Replacement handle kit for older style, stoves, requires no modification to the existing door, part # 1-00-08704

It is advised that whenever you are replacing a door latch, a new door gasket should also be installed to ensure the striker is set to the correct depth. Door gasket part # for all models, 1-00-00888-20

Compatible Models

For Retrofit on; P38, P61, PC45, and 44Mag (Small Door) TLC2000, DVC500, Exception (Large Door)

1. To ensure safe and accurate drilling, fixture the cast door onto a drill press.
2. Use the 10mm bit to drill latch hole from handle side.
3. Slide wave washer(s) onto handle shaft. One for the small door, or two for the large door
4. Check that the drilled hole is free of burrs. Slide handle into 10mm hole, Figure 2. DO NOT LUBRICATE! 
5. For the large door frame, install the beveled spacer with the beveled side toward the door. 
6. Align set screw hole in pawl with notches in handle shaft. Slide pawl onto shaft. The first notch for the large door and the second notch on the small door
7. Firmly hold pawl and handle to compress wave washer. Install and snug first set screw. Do not over-tighten
8. Check for free rotation of handle. If handle is tight, remove pawl and reverse it on the handle shaft, Repeat steps 6 and 7.
9. Install second set screw on top of first to lock assembly
