Ashley (Coal/Wood) Furnace Steel Shaker Handle 40260. The handle lets you shake the stove's interior grates from side to side, causing ash to drop into the lower pan and allowing air to flow to the base of the fire. If the handle is damaged or warped, it should be replaced!

Instructional Notes

On most units, the shaker handle can simply be pushed onto the end of the stub that comes off the shaker grate and can be removed after it is used. It is a good idea to wear something like a Leather Fireplace Glove when using the handle to shake the grate.

Troubleshooting Notes

-It is important to vigorously shake the shaker grate 1/2" from left to right to spill ashes into the ash pan at least once every 12 hours (This should also be done when loading fuel. See Manual for more detailed information). Rotating the handle from the (5 o'clock to 7 o'clock) position will agitate the coals and spill ashes into the ash pan. It is advisable for you to get familiar with the shaker grate operation before you start a fire in the unit.  Do not allow ashes to build up to the top of the grate because it can cause the grate to warp and burn out.

Warranty

Unfortunately, sometimes products do not work like they are supposed to. We offer a 90 day warranty on manufacturer defects.
