Hearthstone Wood Stove Glass (Equinox 8000).  It is important to periodically inspect the glass and glass gasket on your wood stove to ensure you have a proper seal.  A crack in the glass or a missing / deteriorated gasket could allow smoke or flue gases to enter the room.

A Note About Our Glass: Unlike some manufacturers, we do not use tempered glass. Tempered glass should NEVER be used in a wood fuel stove, it is not suitable for high heat use. Our glass is made to resist very high temperatures up to 1,400° F / 760° C with low thermal expansion.

Instructions:

1.) Remove the front door by lifting it straight up off the hinges with the hinge pins remaining in the door (Take care not to lose any washers placed between the hinge tabs. You will need them when the door is returned to the stove). Place the door face down (Use a soft surface for doors with an enamel finish).

2.) To replace the glass gasket in the front door, first apply penetrating oil to each of the eight screws holding the glass clips to the front door. Use a cross-tip screwdriver to remove the screws.

3.) Carefully lift off the damaged glass and discard it. Pull out the used gasket left in the door and discard it. Clean the gasket channel using steel wool or a wire brush. Wipe the channel clean with a damp cloth to remove any loose residue.

3.) Peel the paper backing off the gasket and pack it into the prepared gasket channel (Do not stretch or bunch the gasket as it is placed into the channel).

4.) Carefully place the new glass back onto the door. Secure it by replacing the clips and screws, remembering to place a new flat gasket piece between each retention clip and the glass.

5.) Return the door to the stove. Ensure any spacer washers are repositioned between the hinge tabs.

Helpful Tips:

If you need to remove the glass or glass gasket it is a good idea to spray any fasteners with a product like WD40 or PB Blaster prior to this step. This will greatly reduce the possibility of stripping or breaking any screws/bolts during removal. When reinstalling the glass tighten the fasteners in a crisscross pattern. This will help to ensure there is even pressure on the glass (Do not overtighten). 

Please open and inspect your glass to make sure that it has arrived intact. Damage Claims for broken glass from shipping MUST be made within 72 hrs of delivery, no exceptions.
