US Stove Company Nickel Spring Handle: 891135. This spring attaches to the main door handle. The spring handle acts as a thermal break, helping to dissipate heat. This allows the spring handle to maintain a lower temperature during operation.

Removal of Old Spring Handle

  • Ensure your woodstove is completely cool to the touch.
  • Put on heavy gloves to get a firm grip on the metal coil.
  • Rotate and twist the spring handle by hand in the direction that makes the coil expand (counterclockwise usually works for standard wound coils).
  • Watch the spring diameter expand slightly as you turn, then pull it straight off the steel rod while continuing to twist.

Installation of New Spring Handle

  • Clean any rust, soot, or debris off the steel rod or air control rod using a wire brush.
  • Put on your gloves.
  • Place the end of the new spring handle against the tip of the steel rod.
  • Twist the spring handle in the winding/expanding direction while pushing it firmly down the length of the rod until it sits in the desired position.
  • Release the spring, and it will snap back, locking tightly into place via friction.

  • I have a really old Ashley cast iron insert that needs new handles. The part where the handle slips on is 1/4 inch. What size is the hole in these handles? Thank you

    I believe that the part you need is 891331. The dimension of this handle are 1-5/8" length and the diameter of the hole is 1/4" approx.
