The baffle board ensures that as much heat as possible is retained in the stove and emitted into the room in a controlled manner. It redirects flue gases inside the stove and increases the temperature of the reburn tubes. When the tubes become "superheated," they will reburn excess smoke and flue gas increasing your stoves efficiency. The baffle board also protects the top of the stove. If the board is deteriorated or you notice large cracks forming it should be replaced. You should not burn your stove without a functional baffle board in place!
