Instructions

Install Instructions For Heatilator Eco Choice Door & Ash Pan Gasket (3/8" x 30FT): 1-00-00888-30

Replacing a door gasket is relatively simple and can be done without removing the door from the stove.

  1. Remove the old gasket from the door and scrap away any old glue, silicone or gasket material.
  2. GASKET CEMENT: If you are using gasket cement, the metal groove that receives the gasket MUST be clean and clear or debris. Apply gasket cement to the entire grove surface in a thin coating and let it become tacky, approximately 15-20 minutes.
  3. RTV SILICONE: Apply a 1/8" bead of silicone into the groove. You do not need to wait for the silicone to set-up and your surface does not have to 100% clean of debris.
  4. Starting on the hinge side of the door, in the middle, between the hinges, lay the gasket rope into the groove. Do not stretch the gasket as you go
  5. overlap the start and end point by approximately 1/2" and cut the length of gasket
  6. Tuck the ends together
  7. Close the door and leave the stove at room temperature for 30 minutes for the adhesive to set up prior to starting the stove

Troubleshooting

  • Gasket cement is difficult to use on stove doors that cannot lay flat during setup. Gasket cement is also more work to use if silicone has been used in the past as you will need to remove most of the RTV to get the cement to stick to the metal. RTV silicone is recommended.
  • Use black RTV. If the silicone slips past the gasket during setup, it will not be quite as noticeable as orange or red.
