Troubleshooting

Troubleshooting Notes

Click here for the Complete Mt. Vernon AE Troubleshooting Manual

  1. The Mt Vernon AE uses two thermocouples, one which is mounted on the firepot and one that is mounted on the back of the pellet drop tube. The mother board must detect both of these circuits of an error message will display and the unit will not start-up.
  2. IF UNIT LIGHTS AND GOES OUT DURING START-UP: SEE PAGE 16 (FIREPOT THERMOCOUPLE TROUBLE-SHOOTING)
  3. Early versions of the motherboard for the AE units had known issues regarding the thermocouple connections on the PCB board where the pins of the thermocouples connect. If you have replaced the thermocouple and are still having problems, you are probably going to have to replace the motherboard/ control board. Over time, the solder connections at the thermocouple connection points will develop microscopic cracks in the solder, which can sometimes be remedied by heating and "re wetting" the solder points at the connections (skills and specialized tools are required) OR the pins at the solder connections will become separated from the PCB board altogether. These problems will require a new control board, part SRV7000-456

Thermocouple replacement

Just installed and working fine so far!

You get what you pay for!

I had purchased this item from another site, for a much lower cost. It looked identical, installed the thermocouple and nothing but an error message that was the exact one as before. I turned back to Stove and Grill, paid more but the item works like a charm. No more error messages, my fault trying to save a buck in the end it cost me time, energy, and money. I have used this Stove and Grill Parts before, and this experience will make them my only place to go to when I need parts. The right parts, fast delivery, an overall reliable company.
